Twenty two feet of steel with high side walls, specified for jobs where the material is bulky and light and the volume arrives faster than a smaller box can absorb.
The thirty is a volume container and it only makes sense on material that is bulky in proportion to its weight. New construction framing waste is the clearest example. Timber offcuts, sheathing, packaging, insulation scrap and cardboard together produce an enormous quantity of space consumed for a comparatively modest tonnage.
Large residential cleanouts behave similarly once furniture is involved, because sofas, wardrobes and mattresses occupy volume that nothing can compress. Commercial fit out waste is the same again, with ceiling grid, partition studwork and carpet tile dominating the load. What all of these share is that you will fill the box long before you approach the weight allowance.
The failure case is dense material, and it is worth being blunt about it. Concrete, brick, soil, tile and asphalt all weigh in the region of a ton or more per cubic yard. A thirty yard container filled with any of them would exceed legal transport weight several times over and simply could not be collected.
Even a partial rubble load in a thirty is usually a mistake, because the dense fraction consumes the entire weight allowance while most of the visible space stays empty. The correct arrangement on a mixed job is a ten or a fifteen taking the heavy material as a clean inert load and the thirty taking everything bulky, which is cheaper on both containers.
A thirty yard container is around twenty two feet long with side walls approaching six feet, and the truck servicing it needs the same straight approach and vertical clearance as any other roll off. What changes is that the margins shrink. A drive that just accommodates a twenty frequently will not take a thirty once the truck position is accounted for.
That is why placement for this size is confirmed before the booking is accepted rather than discovered by a driver on the morning. Where a residential drive cannot take it, the realistic options are a kerbside placement with a permit, a step down to the twenty accepting a swap out, or in some cases a position on adjacent unmade ground with planking underneath.
A thirty carrying construction waste has real recovery potential, and how it is loaded decides how much of it is realised. Clean untreated timber is ground for biomass or mulch feedstock, but only while it stays clean. Painted, pressure treated or laminated timber is rejected from that stream, as is anything heavily contaminated with plaster dust.
Corrugated packaging from a framing or fit out job has the same characteristic. Flattened and dry it has genuine value, and soaked under wet drywall it becomes residual. Keeping the wet gypsum fraction separate from the timber and cardboard is the single habit that most improves both the diversion figure and the disposal rate on a large container.
Step up in capacity when the volume proves larger than the first estimate suggested.
40 Yard Dumpster RentalA different material profile entirely, and a common second container on the same job.
Driveway Dumpster RentalWhere access rather than volume becomes the deciding constraint on the placement.
Junk Removal Dumpster RentalThe separated stream option that reaches a cheaper gate when the load stays clean.
Moving Dumpster RentalScheduling and period differences worth checking before the booking is confirmed.
Residential Dumpster RentalNo. Dense material would exceed legal transport weight long before the box filled. Rubble and soil belong in a ten or fifteen as a clean inert load, run alongside the thirty if the job produces both.
Around twenty two feet for the container itself, plus the usual sixty feet of straight approach and twenty three feet of overhead clearance for the truck. Margins are tighter than on a twenty, so placement is confirmed before booking.
On bulky light material, usually yes, because one delivery and one collection replace two of each. On anything dense the comparison does not apply, since the thirty cannot legally carry it.
Keeping clean untreated timber and dry flattened cardboard away from wet drywall. Both have recovery routes while they stay clean and both become residual once they are contaminated.
Describe the material and the access and we will confirm whether the site takes a thirty, or whether a twenty with a planned swap is the better arrangement.
